My Meeting With Putin
— A Novel by Lyle J Greenfield
"An ordinary citizen. An extraordinary peace plan. An unauthorized meeting with Putin. How one man's obsession led to Trump's fury, the FBI's pursuit, and his family's flight from home. A provocative and timely thriller."
— Troy Van Beek, former Navy SEAL, founder of Ideal Energy
My Meeting With Putin is a political novel by Lyle J Greenfield in which an ordinary American citizen arranges an unauthorized meeting with President Vladimir Putin to propose a bold plan for ending the war in Ukraine — setting off the fury of President Trump, the pursuit of the FBI, and a family forced to flee their home. Set in the present day and built from the real cast of this moment, it is political imagination with the urgency of tomorrow's news — a present-day thriller with the texture of historical fiction.

The Premise.
The day after Trump's so-called summit with Putin in Anchorage dissolves into red-carpet photo ops, the protagonist — an ordinary man with one obsessive idea — gets the chance no diplomat could. His niece Emily attended university in New York with Natalya, daughter of the Russian foreign minister, and the two remain close friends. Through that connection, a brief encounter is arranged beside the runway at Nome, Alaska. There, in a tense early-morning scene, he conveys his idea to a skeptical Putin: carve a new, neutral country — not unlike Switzerland — from the embattled territories of Ukraine, where two languages and cultures are taught, borders open, and coexistence between East and West is restored.
The Plan, and the Pursuit.
Putin's one condition: no American political involvement — he alone must be seen to author the solution. The proposal is developed in secret with a Russian professor of political science and Slavic culture at the University of Zurich, then carried to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels and, finally, to President Zelenskyy in Paris — who is asked to surrender parts of his country in the name of peace. Meanwhile the FBI, having learned of the unauthorized meeting, opens an investigation that reaches President Trump, who demands a subpoena. Greenfield flees the country; his wife Mary, besieged by agents and the press, slips away to join him.
The Bigger Question.
Told by the protagonist himself — vulnerable, determined, a little naïve, and genuinely funny — the novel asks why, in this age, nations still wage war rather than imagine solutions to even the most complex problems. The real people, places, and events are the foundation; every meeting and conversation is the author's invention. The reader may be left, in the end, to wonder: Well, why not?
